Amelia Choi - Associate

The Professional
Amelia obtained her J.D. degree and graduated with distinction (Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar and has since been focusing her practice in the areas of patent and trade-mark litigation and prosecution.

Prior to joining Macera & Jarzyna LLP / Moffat & Co., Amelia completed her articles at Smart & Biggar, working in all areas of intellectual property law, competition law, and IP litigation. She has published several scientific and legal papers in various international journals, and has also presented her work at several international conferences. Amelia also worked at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic conducting legal research and advocacy work in various areas of technology law.

Amelia had a successful career in the high-tech and IS/IT sectors prior to pursuing law. She has worked at IBM, Bell-Northern Research, and Nortel, serving both public and private sectors. Amelia has extensive research and development experience, and has led global multi-disciplinary teams in delivering leading edge technologies.

The Person
Amelia enjoys traveling and good food. She loves spending time with her family and friends. With her linguistic aptitude, she often serves as a translator at numerous public speaking events and social occasions, using English and Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, and Fukienese). She would like to pick up her Spanish and French again.
